WFD-measures (KRW-maatregelen)
The WFD-measures encompass a comprehensive set of actions aimed at improving water quality, restoring natural water systems, ensuring sustainable use of water, protecting aquatic ecosystems, engaging the public, and conducting ongoing monitoring and research. These measures are essential for achieving the goals set by the Water Framework Directive and ensuring the long-term health of water bodies in the Netherlands. In collaboration with Royal Haskoning DHV and Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland we want to investigate how SPECTER planters can help to achieve the goals set by the Water Framework Directive.
Installation of 215 x SPECTER
To monitor the success of the individual SPECTER planters, each unit has been marked. The planters are divided in 21 groups of 10 and 1 group of 5 planters. The first planter of the first group is marked with 1.1. The last planter of the first group has been marked with 1.10 and the last planter of the 22nd group has been marked with 22.5. For this project 6 different plants have been installed, randomly divided over the planters (1 species per planter). Each 6 months the planters will be monitored to find out the survival rates of the plants. The native plant species have been selected in collaboration with ecologists from Het Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland.
Selected plant species
Gele Lis
Moerassandoorn
Gele Waterkers
Beekpunge
Moerasvergeet-me-nietje
Watermunt
High survival rates
2 months after installation we can conclude that all the plants are surviving! In this video you can see how the plants are doing and in the link below you can see how the plants have developed in 8 weeks time.
