The Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier (HHNK) has started a unique project in Wieringermeer. This project was started to increase the spawning and habitat for fresh-salt migrating fish, such as the three-spined stickleback (3-doornige stekelbaars) and elver (glasaal). Over 17 hectares will be converted into a 'Fish Cycle': a system of dikes, banks and water up to a maximum depth of 1 meter. 25 MOSES-modules are integrated in the project plans, which will be installed in September, 2020.
